Across Bilston and Wolverhampton, people often say the same thing — they want to feel heard. Whether it’s concerns around anti-social behaviour, communication, community safety, or trust, many residents want a stronger connection between local communities and the police services that support them.
One of the ways that happens is through the Wolverhampton Independent Advisory Group (IAG).
The IAG is made up of local people from different walks of life who come together to offer honest, independent advice and feedback to Wolverhampton Police. It’s not about politics, titles, or having specialist knowledge — it’s about bringing real community voices into important conversations.
Members of the group help:
- Raise issues affecting local communities
- Challenge police thinking constructively
- Improve trust and understanding
- Share lived experiences and local insight
- Encourage better communication between services and residents
The commitment is around six meetings a year, and while the role is voluntary and unpaid, the impact can be meaningful. Community groups like this can play an important part in making sure local perspectives are represented and considered.
Bilston has always had a strong sense of community spirit, and opportunities like this allow residents to play an active role in helping shape the future of policing and public trust across Wolverhampton.
If you’ve ever thought “someone should say something about that,” this may be your chance to be part of the conversation.
Your voice matters. Your experience matters. Your community matters.
